Europe is currently being burned alive and people still think climate change is a joke. It’s warmer in North Europe than in the middle eastern deserts.

Nearly all northern countries broke their decades old heat records this week.

If you’re gonna have an ignorant American attitude then please only stay on American posts. No one in North Europe has an AC in their houses. Stores, animal shelters, elderly houses, no one has AC. the houses are designed to keep the heat in. The people are not accustomed to the heat. A sudden climate shift like this is extremely dangerous to older people and babies specifically.

There are programs being run to inform elderly people what to do to not die in this heat. There was a heatwave in the Netherlands in 2010 in which approximately 500 more elderly people passed away than normally.

One thing people don’t often appreciate is that the southern US states are along the same latitude as the Middle Eastern deserts, rather than northern Europe. We’re not competing with Texas, we’re competing with northern Canada. If Saskatoon can’t handle Mexican weather, London can’t handle Middle-Eastern weather. It’s not built for it at all.

even if billie joe was straight (he’s not) teenagers getting offended he used the word faggot in american idiot 16 years after the fact would still be some of the goofiest discourse i have yet to see on this website. if you were young and gay in 2004 that shit rocked your world bc we were living through one of the most powerful resurgences of blind american patriotism and anti-gay evangelical bullshit of the last three decades. i dont think most of yall understand how radical that song, that album, and green day’s overall anti-bush pro-gay stance was for the time. even though we were at the cusp of bush becoming unpopular by the time it was released, american idiot saw a fairly mainstream rock band condemning not just him, but the bigoted, ignorant american culture which created him. to remove all of this context from the song and act like green day was just throwing around homophobic slurs for the hell of it is exactly why people joke nobody has reading comprehension on this website lmao. he’s not weaponizing the term; he’s using it to identify with an alternative american society.

sturgeon are probably responsible for most of history’s “lake monster” sightings around the world! these giant fish do sometimes cruise around just under the surface, and from a distance their primordially scaly spines can look like some kind of fantastical serpent, or something.

these freshwater fish are generally huge, sure, but some individuals have been recorded as north of 20 feet long, which is frankly ridiculous.

WELL LUCKILY(?) FOR YOU, sturgeons of all sizes are bottom feeders that rely on a diet of shellfish, crustaceans, and tiny fish that they vacuum up out of the muck. they don't even really have teeth- a sturgeon couldn't bite you even if it wanted to.

and when I say "vacuum" I am, perhaps, speaking more literally than you are comfortable with! behold, the mouth of the sturgeon:

they literally just cruise along the bottom and Hoover up anything remotely edible that seems like it might fit in their face! HUGELY uncomfortable to look at, but not dangerous.

yessirree, if a sturgeon wanted to do you in it would have to resort to beating you to death with its mighty tail, like god intended.

(which might happen if you try to harass a big one! these things have a SEVERE amount of muscle, and a sturgeon legally can be counted as a blunt weapon)
